Once the fuse is lit, there’s only one way to extinguish the flames.

In the Line of Duty, Book 1

Years ago, Cole Sullivan made a battlefield promise sealed in a dying man’s blood—to take care of his best friend’s little sister. Now he’s forced to live with the fact that Gemma Matthews is completely off limits.
Though Gemma’s always had a crush on the darkly handsome, far-too-serious explosives expert, she can’t forget the sting of his rejection. Now here they are, ten years later, with Cole still stubbornly in the role of protector. But when she catches him watching her from his house next door, she jumps at the opportunity to show him everything he’s been missing.
Cole can barely keep his cool at Gemma’s bedroom window performance. He’s never been a risk taker, but her all-out campaign of seduction ignites a fuse that can only blow up in his face.
All thoughts of backing off are swept away in the heat of reckless passion. Leaving him wondering how he will live with himself amid the razor-sharp shards of his broken promise.

Warning: Contains a smoking-hot explosives expert and enough heat to set an ammunition depot ablaze.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The sexual tension between Gemma & Cole, was hot enough to have my Kindle smokin! When they finally do get together it's inferno hot!! I'd give it a 10 out of 10 on my Steamy Scale ;-) Although Gemma's been in love with Cole since she was 17, she didn't think he felt the same because he turned down her advance at that time. Cole has always cared for Gemma but thought he wasn't good enough for her because of his upbringing & she's his best friend Brandon sister.

Fast forward to years later Brandon has died in combat, and his dying wish to Cole is to always protect Gemma. Cole takes his promise to Brandon seriously. When he's no longer able to deny his feelings for Gemma, suffers double with Survivor's Guilt and feelings of betrayal to Brandon. It's now up to Gemma to show Cole that they belong together & that Brandon would be happy for them. If there is anything negative to say about His Obsession Next Door, would be that I wish there was an epilogue at the end of the story. One showing where Gemma & Cole with their dogs Charlie & Stallone a few months later. Or about their wedding, giving the book a perfect HEA ending.

I'm looking forward to reading other books from the In the Line of Duty series!  I recommend His Obsession Next Door to lovers of romance, this is the book for you!

Home is where her heart is
When Presley Christensen returns to Whiskey Creek with her little boy after two years away, she has completely changed her life. She's made peace with her past and overcome the negative behavior that resulted from her difficult childhood. Now she's back in the small town that was the closest thing to "home" she ever knew—the town where she can be with the sister who's her only family.
There's just one catch. Aaron Amos still lives in Whiskey Creek, at least until he moves to Reno to open a branch of the Amos brothers' auto body shop. And no matter how hard she's tried, Presley hasn't been able to get over him. Seeing him again makes the longing so much worse. But she hopes she can get through the next few months, because she can't fall back into his arms…or his bed. She's come too far to backslide now. And there's a secret she's been guarding—a secret she'll do anything to protect.

Let me start this review off by saying that this is the 2nd book that I’ve read by Brenda Novak, so you may just take this with a grain of salt. I’ve experienced mixed emotions with Come Home To Me. Meaning that although Presley and Aaron got there HEA, the ending left a lot to be desired. If there was a epilogue at the end showing them down the road 6 months later, or during/after their wedding would have wrapped it up nicely for me.

Both characters overcame a lot in the 2 years they were apart, and I recognize and appreciate that, but the back and forth of how Presley sees herself became exhausting. As well as how everyone was determine not to see how Aaron has changed and to keep him away from Presley. I don’t agree with how Presley and her sister handled the big secret that she is keeping from Aaron, and he was very justified in his anger when he found out. Presley’s reason were purely based on her selfishness and insecurities. Then the scheme that her sister got both Aaron and Presley involved in will most definitely blow up in their faces later.

Other than those points Come Home To Me was a good story, and very well written. It was a very touching love story about seizing your second chance when it’s given to you. I recommend this book for readers who enjoy love stories.
